Whether you’re investigating a company, tracing political networks, fact-checking a claim, or simply trying to find reliable information online, knowing where to look (and how to verify what you find) is an essential skill.

In this workshop, we’ll explore how investigative journalists approach digital research. You’ll get an overview of useful public databases, search techniques, and online tools that can help you uncover information, connect the dots, and verify your findings. Along the way, we’ll share practical examples from real investigations and explain how we decide which sources to trust.

We’ll also take a close look at AI. When do AI tools save time, and when do they confidently invent facts? We’ll demonstrate practical ways to use AI for research, document analysis, and organizing information, while discussing the limitations, risks, and verification strategies you should always keep in mind and showing alternatives that achieve similar results without consulting a LLM.

The workshop is designed to be interactive. We will bring exercises, you’re encouraged to ask questions throughout, and we’ll finish with an extended Ask Us Anything session where you can bring your own research challenges, favorite tools, or questions about investigative journalism, OSINT, verification, or AI.

Whether you’re a journalist, work for an NGO, are active in a political initiative, or simply enjoy digging beneath the surface, you’ll leave with practical ideas, new tools to explore, and a better understanding of how investigative research works in 2026. No previous experience is required, just curiosity.
